Aardwolf has a fairly complicated clan alliance system where every clan may
have an 'outlook' towards every other clan. Your clan's alliance status
towards another clan determines what actions you may perform regarding that
clan.
To use the alliance status of your clan, type 'clanallies'. To see the
alliance status of another clan, use 'clanallies <clan short name>'. This
lists your clan's current alliance setting with every other clan, as well
as their status towards you, the time until your next status is active, and
any other clans' status changes toward your clan.
The outlook you have towards another clan does not necessarily determine
that clan's outlook towards you. For example, clan A can be hostile towards
clan B, while clan B can still be friendly towards clan A if they so choose
(for example, as an act of peace). Some clan outlooks, however, have to be
mutual before they are fully effective.
The clan alliance status types and what each allows or restricts are:
Neutral- Default clan status. Allows PK, but not raiding or defending.
Friendly- Members of your clan cannot PK or raid a clan/its members you
are friendly towards. This does not restrict the other clan, unless they
have the same status towards your clan.
Allied- As with friendly status, may not PK/raid a clan. If both clans
set ally status with each other, allies may enter and defend each other's
clan halls during a raid without being attacked by the raided clan's guards.
If the other clan is not set allied, this status is treated as friendly.
Hostile- As neutral, but allows a clan to raid the hostile clan. As
with friendly, this does not apply in reverse unless the other clan is also
set hostile.
At War- When both clans set each other at-war, this allows for MUDwide
open PK (not limited to PK rooms). Two leaders are required to set 'at
war' status; until the second has set at war status, or if the opposing
clan does not also set it, the outlook is treated as 'hostile' instead.
The atwar status prevents both clans (even a one-sided at-war) from raiding
with each other.
Changing alliance status
Clan leaders change alliance status towards another clan via the clanadmin
command. The syntax is
clanadmin status <clan name> <new status>
Changes to alliance status will be echoed to both clans when they are set.
The first echo will inform the change and the time before the setting is
active; a second echo will display when the change has taken effect.
There is a delay between changing a clan's ally setting and it taking
effect, as well as a minimum time before it can be changed again. (Both of
these are visible in the clanallies display.)
