Losing a corpse to a system crash is extremely frustrating for a player.
Aardwolf has tried to overcome this with the system outlined below. It is
unlikely that this covers 100% of all possible scenarios but it is at least
all KNOWN corpse loss scenarios at the time of writing.
1. Every time your pfile saves, any corpses that belong to you that are
in the game also save.
2. When you 'quit' from the game, any corpses that belong to you that
are in the game are stored.
3. Whenever you or anyone else gets something from a corpse that belongs to
you, your corpse file is saved (no point wasting time saving, getting
stuff from corpse and selling it, then crashing the mud to get the equip
loaded in your corpse again).
4. If someone ELSE is carrying a corpse that belongs to you when you quit,
it will be taken from them. (Again, otherwise equip is saved with corpse
AND saved with person who has your corpse). When the corpse loads, it
will load in whatever room THEY were in. (Clan raiders, if someone has
your corpse, it's still going to load in their clanroom!)
5. If you quit carrying someone else's corpse, it will be dropped in the
room you are in.
6. Whenever you log into the game (fresh login, where you see MOTD, not
just a reconnect), any corpses on your file will load. The game will
tell you that you have corpses in the realm.
7. Empty corpses will not save.
IMPORTANT POINTS:
* You have around 180 minutes of online time before a corpse decays.
Before corpse saving, this was a big problem if someone quit Aardwolf or
was lagged out for more than 360 minutes. When you quit now (or time-out
due to lag), your corpse will save and be removed from the game. When you
reconnect, it will be restored with what timer was on it when you quit.
You can still lose your equipment if you sit around and let it decay.
* Corpse saving was put in for the benefit of the players, not the imms;
the imms never have corpses :) Please do not search for bugs that can be
abused to duplicate equipment- doing so is grounds for deletion.
* If you DO lose a corpse in a crash, please gather as much information as
possible. Where did you die? What killed you? How long before the crash?
Was anyone carrying your corpse? Did you have more than one corpse in
the game? Were you actually ONLINE at the time of the crash or had you
quit or were you linkdead?
* AUTOLOOT is still a factor in the game. If someone takes items off your
corpse, the item is then on their pfile and not on your corpse. If
they give it back to you, all is well. (Even if there is a crash before
you save, the LAST save is used so the item will just be on your
corpse again, not lost.)
