The following issues regarding gold/overall wealth can be considered 'dead' and not worth arguing for/against.

  Banks will not earn interest.  Especially at higher levels/tiers, the
  amount of gold available is already too high, without being able to add
  more.

  The %g variable in prompt will not have commas.  Prompts appear too often
  and the overhead is too high to generate this each time prompt displays.

  Spouses will never be able to share bank accounts.  No matter how nice
  this idea sounds, it will end up bad in the end.  If you want to share
  gold, go to a bank, withdraw, and give to your spouse.  Manor upgrades
  are the only exception, where costs can be shared between spouses.
