Syntax: password <old password> <new password>
The 'password' command changes your character's password. The first argument must be your old password and the second argument is your desired new password. Passwords are truncated by the MUD at eight characters; anything more is ignored.
This command is encrypted on the MUD server and is protected from being seen by Imms. Most MUD clients gag (do not show) your password or commands including your password. However, others may be able to watch you type it in, and auto-login triggers will allow anyone using your computer & client to log in as you, so be careful.
Both remembering and keeping your password safe is your responsibility; if you forget your password or it gets hacked, there is no guarantee that it can be reset. It's recommended to use passwords that are hard (better: impossible) to guess, not used elsewhere (other websites or other logins), and to NOT use the login triggers that some mud clients provide.
If you have forgotten your password and have an email set (see 'help email'), an Imm may reset your password and email it to you. Note that simply having an email field set does not guarantee your password will be reset. If you do not have the email field set and/or do not have other ways to prove your identity, your password will not be reset.
To have a password reset, Post a note to 'imm' on the Personal board (see 'help note' and 'help board'), and it will be taken care of as soon as an Immortal is available.
If you use login triggers and change your password, remember to change the password triggers in your client! Repeat password failures, even from the same site you always log in from, will likely leave you banned for at least an hour for security reasons. If you do forget and end up banned, wait an hour and you should be able to log in again.
