Syntax: recite <scroll> <target>
'recite' will attempt to read a magical scroll and cast its affects. The
chance to successfully recite a scroll is based on your 'scrolls' skill.
<target> is optional, depending on the nature of the scroll. If there is
no target, recite will cast the scroll on yourself. Unlike staves and
wands (which must be held to be used) scrolls should be in inventory but
NOT held.
Note that certain spells can only be used from an object if you are a class
that can cast those spells. To check a specific spell, use 'showskill
<spellname>'. This command will show, among other things, if a spell is
restricted when on objects. If you do not see a restriction, then the
scroll is fine to use on anyone.
Scrolls only have a single charge; once they are read, the spells are used
and the scroll is consumed. Any spell cast from a scroll is considered at
100% strength. (See the paragraph about nofail in 'help multicast'.)
