Character Creation

Creating a character on Aardwolf is very simple. There are, however, a few things you should keep in mind.

Picking a Name

Try to be inventive and don't worry about what other people will think of your name. On Aardwolf most of the players care about what you say not what your names is. If you can't think of a name, try a baby names web page.

Color Codes

After picking a name and setting your password, you'll be asked if terminal can display color codes. For almost everyone this answer should be yes. Next you'll be asked if you prefer bright or normal colors. I strongly recommend picking bright.

Picking your Class and Race

This is perhaps the most important choice you'll make for your new character.

Class

In Aardwolf you have the opportunity to play as 7 different classes:

  • Mage : High powered spellcasting class. Many offensive spells but weak in unarmed and weapon based combat.
  • Warrior : Pure fighting machine. Warriors thrive on combat but cannot master the subtlety of thieves or the magical talents of mages.
  • Thief : Masters of poison and treachery the thieves are a secretive class. The thieves' mastery of darker magics makes them a deadly enemy.
  • Ranger : The protectors of the realm. Excellent fighters that can also draw magical powers from the forces of nature.
  • Psi : Mystical spellcasting class about which little is known. A psionicist's magical ability comes from within.
  • Paladin : Noble warriors that pride honor and justice above all else. Skilled in combat and holy magic but completely master neither.
  • Cleric : Spellcasting class more based upon defensive and healing magics. Combat skill more effective than mages but weaker combat spells.

Although any class is playable, some have more benefits for a new player than others. In particular, many players consider the Warrior and the Mage to be the strongest classes because they are very focused.

If you have a hard time deciding what class to play, I would recommend warrior. It is a class that will allow you to hit your enemies hard, with out the need to remember the spellup and attack spells of the mage.

Race

After picking your class, the mud will ask you to pick your race. A list of good racial combos, a list of bad racial combos, and a list with all other races will be given.

Please note that it is strongly recomended that you pick from the list of good racial combos. If you choose to pick from the list of bad combos you will find you have a harder time leveling up. If you pick from the list of normal races, you will miss out on the benefits the recommended races can grant to your character's chosen class.

Gender

I would recommend you simply play a character of the same gender you are in rl (real life). This choice will have an affect only on your interactions with your fellow players.

Player Stats Roll

This used to be very relevant, 'about 10 years ago'. I recommend you simply accept the very first set of stats it rolls for you. Only play with this if you are bored. For detailed stat information, Click Here.

Alignment

You will be asked to pick your alignment here. I recommend picking Good because many of the low level areas have mostly evil mobs to kill. You can level with any alignment and you can change your alignment in-game by killing mobs that are the oppisite alignment of the alignment you want.

Experience Level

I recommend you set this to 1. You can always change the level of advice the mud gives you later.

Congratulations on making your character!
